Q: The shuffling when testing decks seems very non-random. What is your shuffling algorithm?

Q: The shuffling when testing decks seems very non-random. What is your shuffling algorithm?

A: Our shuffling algorithm simulates a true random deck. That means that every individual card has an equal probability of being in any single slot. Note that truly random shuffles would display clumps of lands/non-lands, and would not have lands evenly spread out. I believe our shuffling algorithm is similar to most other computer shuffling algorithms.

For those who complain about drawing zero lands, here are the probabilities of drawing zero lands in a sixty card deck in the first seven cards:

20 lands: 4.8%
21 lands: 4%

22 lands: 3.3%

23 lands: 2.7%
24 lands: 2.2%

25 lands: 1.7%
26 lands: 1.4%
27 lands: 1.1%

28 lands: 0.9%

This means that to reduce the odds of drawing zero lands to less than 1%, you will need to play at least 28 lands. The odds above were generated from our desktop version of Decked Builder.
